Getting to Anfield
Anfield is well connected by train, bus and road. Whether you’re travelling from Liverpool city centre or elsewhere in the UK, getting to the stadium is straightforward with several transport options available on matchdays.
🚆 By Train
Liverpool Lime Street is the city’s mainline railway station and is around two miles from Anfield.
For Merseyrail services, Sandhills Station is the closest station. On matchdays, dedicated Soccerbus services operate between Sandhills and the stadium.
🚌 Matchday Bus
Before kick-off
Bus 926 operates from Liverpool ONE (Stand 4) beginning approximately 3½ hours before kick-off.
After the match
Bus 927 departs from St Domingo Road, opposite the Valley Sports Bar.
Services begin around 10 minutes before the final whistle and continue for up to 2½ hours after the match.

If you only visit one pub before the match, make it The Park. Located on Walton Breck Road, The Park is one of the most popular pubs on matchdays and is famous for its incredible atmosphere. Expect plenty of singing, passionate Liverpool supporters and a real taste of the Anfield matchday experience.

Situated close to the famous Kop end, The Albert is another classic Liverpool pub where supporters gather before and after games. with walls and ceilings covered in football memorabilia, visiting teams scarfs this really is a must-visit for any football fan.
🍺 The King Harry
Found on Anfield Road, The King Harry is a favourite with Reds supporters and one of the best places to watch the team coach arrive before kick-off. Overlooked by the famous Mohamed Salah mural, its the perfect place to soak up the atmosphere before making the short walk down Anfield road to the stadium.
🍺 Taggy’s Bar
A Liverpool-themed sports bar on Anfield Road offering live music, a good range of beers and a welcoming atmosphere for supporters. Filled with Liverpool memorabilia and large screens showing football throughout the day, this is a great place to continue the matchday experience.

My pick: The King Harry.
Get there around 90 minutes before kick-off, grab a pint outside beneath the Mohamed Salah mural and watch the Liverpool team coach arrive. It’s one of the best pre-match experiences you’ll find anywhere in Europe.
🍔 Food & Drink
Whether you’re after a quick bite before kick-off or something to eat after the match, Anfield has plenty of options. One local favourite is Sing Fong’s Fish & Chips, while independent vendors around the stadium serve burgers, pies, hot dogs and other matchday classics. Liverpool FC also operates food kiosks inside and outside the stadium, offering a good selection of hot food, snacks and drinks at reasonable prices.
⭐ Captain’s Tip
If you have time before the match, skip the queues inside the stadium and try one of the independent food vendors around Anfield. They add to the matchday atmosphere and are a big part of the experience.

Arrive at least two hours before kick-off. The streets are much quieter, making it easier to take photos before thousands of supporters arrive.
🏨 Where to Stay
Liverpool city centre is the best place to stay if you’re visiting for a weekend. It offers the widest choice of hotels, restaurants, bars and excellent transport links to Anfield.
If you’re only visiting for the match, there are also several independent guest houses and bed & breakfasts within walking distance of the stadium.

Stay in the city centre and make a weekend of it. You’ll be able to enjoy Liverpool’s nightlife, waterfront and museums as well as the football.

I’ve been to Anfield hundreds of times, and this is how I’d spend a first visit.
Arrive at least two hours before kick-off and walk around the stadium to see the murals, Shankly Gates and Hillsborough Memorial. Grab a drink outside The King Harry and watch the Liverpool team coach arrive beneath the famous Mohamed Salah mural before heading into the stadium.
If you have a match ticket, don’t miss the Fan Zone beneath the Anfield Road Stand. It’s a great place to soak up the atmosphere with live entertainment, food, drinks, big screens and activities for supporters of all ages.
