Flights from the UK

Naples is one of the easiest Italian football destinations to reach from the UK, with direct flights available from London, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and several other major airports. Most flights arrive at Naples International Airport (NAP) in around 2 hours 30 minutes. From the airport, you can reach the city centre by taxi, airport shuttle or public transport before continuing to the stadium by Metro or train. Booking your flights a few months in advance can often secure the best fares, particularly for Serie A and Champions League fixtures.

⭐ Captain’s Tip

If you’re planning a football weekend, spend at least two nights in Naples. The city has incredible food, rich history and one of the best football atmospheres in Europe, making it well worth more than just a day trip.

Getting to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona

The Stadio Diego Armando Maradona is located in the Fuorigrotta district of Naples, around 5km west of the city centre. The easiest way to reach the stadium is by train on the Cumana Line to Mostra station or by Napoli Campi Flegrei railway station, both of which are just a short walk from the ground. Naples Metro Line 2 also serves the area, making it easy to travel from the city centre on matchdays. If you’re arriving by car, parking around the stadium is limited, so public transport is strongly recommended.

Captain’s Tip

Travel by train from Naples city centre and arrive at least 90 minutes before kick-off. This gives you plenty of time to soak up the incredible pre-match atmosphere, enjoy the local food and explore the area around one of Italy’s most iconic football stadiums.

🍺Best Pubs.

The Den Pub Napoli

A popular meeting place for Napoli supporters before and after matches. A lively atmosphere, good selection of beers and a great place to experience the passion of the local fans.

Frank Malone Pub

An Irish-style sports bar close to the stadium that’s popular with both locals and visiting supporters. A good choice for food, drinks and watching live sport.

Birreria St. James

A relaxed pub serving a wide range of beers and pub food. It’s a favourite with football fans looking for a quieter drink before heading to the stadium.

⭐ Captain’s Recommendation

If it’s your first visit to Naples, spend some time enjoying the city centre before making your way to Fuorigrotta. Then head to one of the local pubs near the stadium about 90 minutes before kick-off to experience the build-up with Napoli supporters. The atmosphere only gets better as match time approaches.

🍔 Food & Drink

Naples is the birthplace of pizza, so no visit is complete without trying an authentic Neapolitan pizza before or after the match. Around the stadium and throughout the Fuorigrotta district you’ll find plenty of pizzerias, cafés and street food vendors serving local favourites such as pizza, fried pizza, arancini, panini and traditional Italian pastries. Inside the stadium you’ll also find kiosks selling snacks, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages, although queues can become busy as kick-off approaches.

Captain’s Recommendation: Make time to enjoy a traditional Neapolitan pizza in the city centre before heading to the stadium. It’s one of the highlights of any trip to Naples and a must for first-time visitors.

⭐ Captain’s Tip: Don’t rush straight to the stadium. Arrive in Naples early, explore the city, enjoy the local food and then head to Fuorigrotta around 90 minutes before kick-off to soak up the incredible pre-match atmosphere.

📸 Best Photo Opportunities

The Stadio Diego Armando Maradona is packed with iconic photo opportunities that celebrate both SSC Napoli and the club’s greatest legend. Arrive early to explore the area around the stadium and capture some unforgettable memories before the crowds build.

⭐ Captain’s Tip: Allow yourself plenty of time before kick-off to explore both the stadium and the city. Some of the best Maradona murals are found away from the ground and are among the most photographed football landmarks in Europe.

🏨 Where to Stay

Naples offers accommodation for every budget, from luxury hotels to affordable apartments and guest houses. For the best experience, I recommend staying in the historic city centre or around Toledo, Municipio or Piazza Garibaldi, where you’ll have easy access to restaurants, attractions and public transport. From the city centre, it’s simple to reach the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona by Metro or train on matchday.

⭐Captain’s Recommendation: Stay in the heart of Naples and make a weekend of your trip. You’ll experience some of Italy’s best food, visit famous landmarks and still have an easy journey to the stadium.

⭐Captain’s Tip: Book your accommodation as early as possible if Napoli are playing a major Serie A match or a European fixture, as hotels can sell out quickly and prices often increase closer to matchday.
